If ever you wanted an idea of how in flux the DC banner is, this is a pretty good example.
Deadline is reporting that JJ Abrams' production house, Bad Robot, is gearing up to take on the 'Justice League Dark' IP with Warner Bros., with potential movies and TV series in the offing. Per their sources, Bad Robot's TV and movie chiefs are beginning the search for writers and talent to take on the property, with the likelihood being that individual characters will get their own movies and TV shows before it locks into one major movie.
For those unaware, 'Justice League Dark' is a fairly recent comic-book property compared to others. It first appeared in 2011 and featured various established characters in the DC universe such as Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Deadman, Xanadu - all of them with a supernatural, occult bent to them. Some of the members have already had their own TV shows and even movies.
The most recognisable of these is 2005's 'Constantine', starring Keanu Reeves in the title role. That movie took a few liberties with the character, specifically turning John Constantine into an American, and changing the setting from London to Los Angeles. There was a short-lived TV series, however, that was axed after one season. 'Swamp Thing', meanwhile, was another one-and-done TV series that was produced by 'The Conjuring' director James Wan, and was critically acclaimed for its special effects and writing.
This isn't the first time that 'Justice League Dark' has brushed up against a major studio production. As recently as 2015, 'Edge of Tomorrow' director Doug Liman was attached to try and get the thing off the ground, while Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro was also trying to get it going a few years before that.
In short, others have tried and failed - so the question now is how are Bad Robot and JJ Abrams any different?
