Both The New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix have been pushed back from their original release dates, but a new report by Collider is claiming one of them appears to be having some dreaded set problems.
Collider's source has it that over half of The New Mutants could up end up being reshot, which is set to star Game Of Thrones alum Maisie Williams and Split breakout star Anya Taylor-Joy. Dark Phoenix, however, reshuffled its release date to allow more time to meet the schedules of its A-list cast, whilst The New Mutants' problems appear more substantial.
The problem is down to tone, with Fox wanting The New Mutants to be much more scary than director Josh Boone had intended. Given the success of Deadpool and Logan and probably the impending sale to Disney, Fox are keen to have their own Marvel properties stand out from Disney's slates - which is why Collider's source is claiming that the reshoots are needed.
Josh Boone hasn't much in the way of experience with horror as a genre, as his last directing job was the teen drama The Fault In Our Stars and the last produced script was 2016's indie All We Had - so it's not surprising that he hasn't been able to get a grip on it. That said, the fact that The New Mutants is likely being prepped for a PG-13 rating means it's a balancing act.
Collider's source also says that Boone has been having the dreaded "creative differences" with the studio over their changes, but what precisely it is and what'll end up making into the finished film remains to be seen.
