Another item of sequel news today.
A follow-up to Chicken Run has long been discussed (the movie having been released in the year 2000) and now it looks like it’s actually happening.
THR reports that Aardman Animations is officially working on a sequel, with both StudioCanal and Pathe on board as developers.
Aardman is renowned for its Oscar-winning shorts and features, in particular those that focus on the duo Wallace and Gromit. Their most recent feature was Early Man, directed by Nick Park. Their debut feature Chicken Run remains the highest-grossing stop motion animated film of all time.
No details in relation to the cast or plot have been released on the sequel yet but in relation to crew, Sam Fell, whose credits include Paranorman, The Tales of Despereaux and Aardman feature Flushed Away, is attached to direct with Paul Kewley (Shaun the Sheep Movie) producing.
The screenplay is being penned by original writers Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell, and Aardman's co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton are executive producing.
The original 2000 film followed a group of chickens trying to escape a farm. Its voice cast boasted the likes of Mel Gibson, Timothy Spall and Imelda Staunton.
Chicken Run 2 will likely go into production at Aardman's studio in Bristol after it wraps on Farmageddon, the sequel to 2015's Shaun the Sheep the Movie.
