For many, GoldenEye is their first experience in gaming and, more specifically, first-person multiplayer shooters.
Sure, we've now got an endless range to choose from, including Call of Duty, Battlefield, Overwatch and Doom, but GoldenEye was the first of its kind to reach a broad audience of players and it holds a special place in people's hearts and memories.
It should come as no surprise, then, that players have been working tirelessly for a real, honest-to-goodness HD remake of GoldenEye's frantic multiplayer mode for many years now. Before you ask, no, we don't count that crappy GoldenEye remake from a few years ago with Daniel Craig as an actual remake. It wasn't and you all know it.
Anyway, Half-Life 2 and Valve's Source Engine has been incredibly popular with programmers and modders for many years and, after almost ten years in development, a HD remake of GoldenEye's multiplayer mode has been made using it.
GoldenEye Source 5.0, which is available for free download right now, uses all of the original maps and layouts from GoldenEye and the weaponry and gives it a polish and updating for the modern age.
