One of the incredibly frustrating parts about Pokemon GO is that there's no real sense of where specific Pokemon are hiding or if they flock to a certain area.
In Dublin, Drowzees have been sighted with a certain amount of regularity in and around Dublin 8 whilst Gastlys tend to crop up in Dublin 1, specifically around Jervis Street and in Smithfield. Further afield, it looks like Jynxs and Psyducks are more common in heavily populated areas - shopping centres, specifically - than anywhere else.
However, we all know that there are extremely rare Pokemon in the game - Pikachus, Bulbasaurs, Charmanders, Snorlaxes - but one Pokemon that has never been caught by anyone, ever is Mew.
This guy.
Mew and Mewtwo are the most highly sought-after Pokemon GO in the game. So far, as best we can tell, there hasn't been a single sighting of Mew or Mewtwo in the game anywhere in the world. Why is that?
Pretty simple, actually. They were never added to the current version of the game. Players over at /r/pokemongo, the leading subreddit for the game, actually went through the game's coding and found that neither Mewtwo, Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres have a "base capture rate" - which essentially means that none of them are available to be captured in the wild.
They either have to be specifically planted by the game at a certain location or they have to be evolved up.
That's not to say that Mew will be made available in the near future, however. There's talk already that Niantic Labs, the creators behind the Pokemon GO app, are in the process of working out a deal with McDonald's which will see each and every McDonald's turned into either a Pokestop or a Pokegym and, thus, encourage people to go there.
It'll also definitely mean that any of that exercise people are getting from Pokemon GO is about to be undone if this comes to pass.
