The game that spawned a pile of sequels, a movie franchise and a theme park in Japan is getting a reboot for the next-gen gamers.

If you're of a certain vintage, then the first Resident Evil game was the one that made you realise just how powerful video games were. Creepy and atmospheric, it wasn't all about shooting and killing, it was also about being scared out of your wits, and now it seems that iconic title is getting a reboot.

With a release date (at the moment) of 2015, the game will be remastered to have the beautiful 1080p visuals that we've come to expect on the new consoles and for PC, while all other consoles will get a 720p version according to IGN.

Capcom have confirmed the title, but it seems that it will be based on the 2002 remake for the GameCube rather than the 1996 original, but that the game is coming out at all is still good news.
