We've been following the development of Sonic Mania since it was first announced, and it's pretty heartening to see how well-received the game has been so far by both players and critics alike.
So far, Sonic Mania has an 86% rating on Metacritic - which is easily the highest rating any Sonic game has received in years. In fact, the last time a Sonic The Hedgehog game scored this high was in 2001 for Sonic Adventure. That's sixteen years since a decent Sonic The Hedgehog game.
CGM rated Sonic Mania 8.5 out of 10, and said that the game "earns its spot next to the titles released during Sonic’s golden era," whilst GameSpot gave it a 9, saying that Sonic Mania "goes beyond expectations, managing to be not only a proper evolution of the series' iconic formula, but the best Sonic game ever made."
Meanwhile, IGN gave it 8.7 and said that it was "the classic throwback longtime series fans have been clamoring for."
In short, it's all positives and if you're looking for a throwback to the heady days of Sonic 3, you're in for a treat. The game is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, and you can pick it up on PS Store, Xbox Store and Steam.
