Rugby is always going to be a more challenging game to recreate than football. The multitude of rules, the stop start nature of the game and the constricted viewpoints of a scrum are more difficult to recreate on screen than a football game. That said, Rugby World Cup 2011 is the official game of the upcoming tournament and it's the only rugby game of note to be released in years.

Unfortunately the graphics are far from cutting edge. It's not that the game is ugly, it just pales compared to the latest FIFA or Pro Evolution games. The controls are difficult to master too and it can take a few hours to fully figure out how to play. The game is satisfying when you string a few passes together and the AI is challenging enough. The title also includes commentary from a few well known British pundits and it does an admirable job of recreating the two international teams competing in the upcoming tournament.

This title should satisfy younger gamers or rugby fanatics but it's hard to imagine the title having the same impact as Fifa. Still it's a welcome addition to a relatively barren genre.
