Ed Boon, one of  the co-creators of 'Mortal Kombat', has said in an interview that he's had discussions with Marvel about a fighting game.

Take this information with a pinch of salt - but here's hoping the idea sees the light of day in the future. We could potentially be seeing our favourite Marvel superheroes, such as Hulk and Wolverine, taking on the likes of 'Mortal Kombat' veterans Scorpion and Sub Zero. Or even more excitedly... Superman or Batman?

In an interview with Game Informer, Ed Boon spoke about meeting up with Marvel about creating a crossover fighting game, a la 'Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe'. Now, when exactly these discussions took place is left unanswered - they could have even been before the release of the first 2008 crossover.

In the interview, Boon looks a little bit uncomfortable answering the question, seemingly backtracking slightly from his initial excited outburst. However, the video game creator went on to say, "I probably shouldn't talk about it" before dropping a little nugget of hope that we are desperately holding onto. He said "We would love to make like a Marvel fighting game, or a Marvel Vs. DC - I think that would be the coolest."

Time will tell if we'll ever get to see this potentially kick-ass game in our video game collections in the future - but here's hoping. The thought of getting to see Iron Man taking a Batarang to his million dollar suit, or a demented Harley Quinn attempting to take down the weather manipulator Storm is nearly too much for us to handle.

The next 'Mortal Kombat' entry in the fighting series will be released later this month, with 'Mortal Kombat 11' releasing on April 23rd.
