'The Umbrella Academy' has been a massive success for Netflix, and now the showrunner of the hit show has been tapped to develop a series based on the 'Horizon' series of games for the streaming service.

Showrunner Steve Blackman, who made the show a global hit, will bring 'Horizon' to the streaming service.

The 'Horizon' footsteps will follow in the footsteps of fellow gaming franchises 'The Witcher' and 'Resident Evil' in receiving big-budget Netflix series'.

In a statement, Blackman said “Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world,” Blackman said.

"Guerilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vivid world of man and machine who find themselves on a collision course to oblivion."

“Their salvation comes in the form of a young female warrior named Aloy, who has no idea she’s the key to saving the world."

Aloy will be a main character in the Netflix version of the story, which will be sure to please fans.

"Suffice it to say, yes, Aloy will be a main character in our story" Blackman confirmed.

"My writing partner on this, Michelle Lovretta, and I are thrilled to be able to expand this remarkable IP into a series for all types of viewers," he added.

The first 'Horizon' game launched in February 2017 and became a massive word-of-mouth hit for Sony, with 2022's sequel 'Horizon: Forbidden West' becoming a major hit for the PlayStation 5 when it launched earlier this year.

On the 'Umbrella Academy' front, a fourth season of the cult show has just been announced, and will serve as the final season of the quirky program.

The final season of 'The Umbrella Academy' will air sometime in 2023.
