Another mediocre film, another mediocre game tie-in. GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra is an action shooter game which takes place directly after the events of the recently released movie. You’re tasked with commanding a squad of GI Joes through a series of similar looking 3D maps shooting wave after wave of Cobras.

If that sounds fun, it isn't. The game-play is repetitive with little depth beyond shoot this and punch that. The graphics look like something from a release five years ago and I spent as much time fighting with the controls and the in-game camera as I did against the Cobras.

The game also insists on spoon-feeding you at every opportunity with helpful explanations like why it's a good idea to doge bullets rather than walk into them. The music and sound effects are, at least, amusing and there's lots of cheesy lines like "Oh no, it's the Joes."

Die hard fans of arcade shooters and GI Joe might find a few hours of relatively enjoyable game-play here. For everyone else it's a case of no thank you Joe.
