Forza 3 is latest racing simulator for Xbox 360. There's around 400 fully customisable cars and 100 tracks packed onto two discs – with more to come via downloadable content. The career mode will take gamers at least 50 hours to playthrough and there's various fiendishly difficult multiplayer modes.
The game is billed as a simulator but there's lots of driving assists which can be activated to make things more accessible for beginners. Crashed into a barrier at the last turn and blew the race? No problem. Just hit rewind and take that corner again. It might not be realistic but it takes the pain out of having to re-race those longer events.
Car enthusiasts can tune their vehicles, create custom paint jobs and upload their efforts to an online storefront (check out the Halo paint job). However, series fans may gripe that it's all very similar to Forza 2.
The game runs at 60 frames (ie it's fast) and looks glossy - even the menus read like a car brochure. Plus the physics engine, car models and handling have all been improved since Forza 2. Unfortunately, the music isn't up to much and considering Forza 3 is a fully fledged sequel it doesn't break any new ground in the racing genre.
That aside, Forza 3 is a polished package that should appeal to racing enthusiasts and gamers alike.
