Dark Sector: even from the title, it's obvious that this game is neither fluffy nor cuddly. What we get is a profound sense of foreboding - unfortunately for the creators, that's because it's rubbish!
Dark Sector follows the story of a government assassin, Hayden, on a mission into Russia (it's always bloody Russia!) to stop a lunatic scientist who has unleashed a deadly zombie-making virus. At the end of Level 1, Hayden is infected with the virus but for some reason, doesn't turn into a zombie himself. Instead, he turns into a half-breed, wielding the 'Glaive', a three-pointed throwing star that is the game's gimmick.
The graphics are suitably dark and eerie, and the metallic sheen off the zombies is haunting, but the game lacks any real atmosphere. Perks are supposed to include abilities like controlling the Glaive mid-flight, but this is almost impossible, and will have you grumbling under your breath before long.
It's a shame: with a modicum of more control over your player and the Glaive, this could have been fantastic. Instead, we're left with a familiar bitter taste in our mouths.
