Let's face it, friends: WWII is possibly the greatest inspiration any shooter can draw from (good versus evil, epic battles, dodgy moustaches etc.) In fact, the original shooter, Castle Wolfenstein was a WWII Shooter. But methinks the well has run dry; in the last few years, we have been bombarded (geddit?!) with epic World War titles, and I think we are all getting a little jaded.
So the CoD team had the bright idea to bring their series roaring into the present day. The story is imaginary; a Russian ultra-nationalist trying to reform the Soviet Bloc. My God, can no one think of a better storyline?
This game is nothing short of brilliant. Not since the storming of the beach in Medal of Honour have I seen a game capture the atmosphere of war so completely, and unlike MoH, Modern Warfare does not let up - it is relentless.
You bounce between an American Marine and British SAS, as you fight to stop a dictator's dastardly plans. The graphics are great and the sound puts you right in the action.
I couldn't put this game down.
