Voice acting and mo-cap in videogames is often one of the most overlooked avenues of acting out there today.
When you talk to voice actors about it, it's the equivalent of radio plays from the '30s and '40s, all done with the same kind of emphasis on communicating emotion and range through the voice and nothing else.
Anyway, the reason for the shout-out to voice actors in videogames is that it turns out one of the most respect voice actors in the gaming industry just so happens to be the mother of Billie Eilish, one of the most recognisable and acclaimed singers in pop music today. Maggie Baird's IMDb for voice acting has some of the most impressive credits in the gaming industry.
Chief among them is 'Mass Effect 2' and 'Mass Effect 3', where Baird played Samara, the ansari warrior-monk who joins Commander Shepard during the game. 'Mass Effect 2', of course, is widely acclaimed as the best sci-fi RPG of the past twenty years.
Baird also voiced Anezka in 'Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption', one of the most celebrated PC RPGs of the late '90s. She's also had voice acting in games such as 'Saints Row', 'EverQuest II', and more recently, 'Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns'.
Baird also starred in the likes of 'The X-Files', 'The West Wing', 'JAG' and the likes of 'LA Law' as well, but her voice acting credits in gaming seem way more involved and interesting. How people put two and two together, however, came when 'Guild Wars 2' composer Maclaine Diemer posted this on Twitter earlier this week, prompting loads of "Ohhh yeah, I remember that voice now!" tweets.
