Expecto game-o!
A Harry Potter-themed version of Pokemon Go is coming out from the latter's creators. Pokemon Go was the hit game that took over many mobile users’ lives in the summer of 2016.
Development company Niantic Labs’ new game, which will be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, is similar to Pokemon Go in that it sees players using the real, physical world around them as they play. According to Techcrunch, who broke the news, the game is being co-developed by Warner Bros. Interactive and Portkey Games.
Little is currently known about it, but it’s expected to rely heavily on augmented reality technology, like Pokemon Go. The publication says “there will be significant influence from the Niantic game Ingress”, which lets you wander around the real world collecting in-game items and exploring specific locations.
Features of the popular book slash film series which will hopefully be integrated into the game will include the ability to cast spells, duel other players and even play Quidditch.
According to Niantic CEO John Hanke, "With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies."
