For us, Skyrim is up there with being the game of the decade.

There hasn't been a game like Skyrim - on consoles, anyway - that's managed to suck us into its world completely. It's no surprise that a remastering has eagerly awaited by fans since both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launched, however it looks that's no longer going to be the case.

Rumours and reports have surfaced online that suggest Skyrim will be getting a 'Definitive Edition' for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. That's not a remastering, more just a simple port to the next-gen platform. However, the key difference here is that this version of Skyrim will come with a modding platform, meaning that console players will finally be able to download many of the mods that have managed to extend Skyrim's life-cycle.

Modding is one of the main draws for PC gaming and there's a hugely vibrant community of designers and programmers who've created some incredible mods for Skyrim, Fallout 4 and countless other games down through the years.

To bring this to console gaming is a huge step forward, however fans are already skeptical about how well it'll work out. For one thing, the script extender won't work as well with the Xbox One. Not only that, the sheer volume of mods that will be uploaded and made available means that Bethesda is going to have some job of managing the whole community.

Many fans, however, are more annoyed that Bethesda chose to port Skyrim rather than remaster Morrowind or even Oblivion. Our opinion? We'd rather see them work on the next Elder Scrolls than waste time rehashing something from the past.

Sure, both Morrowind and Oblivion were incredibly good games, but why go back? Morrowind is still just as enjoyable now as it was when it was released and the same goes for Oblivion. Updated graphics for both would be nice, but we'd rather see what's next than what's before.

What do you think? Would you rather see a remastered Oblivion / Skyrim or the next Elder Scrolls game? Let us know in the comments!
