From their formation in 1991 through their initial disbandment in 1998, Refused shattered genre conventions and redefined what heavy music could be — both sonically and politically. Their fearless blend of hardcore, punk, and experimental sounds inspired generations of artists across hardcore, alt-rock, and metal to expand the boundaries of their own creative and ideological expression. After reuniting in 2012, the band continued to leave an indelible mark on the global music landscape.
