If, like us, you love film, but sometimes get a little tired of giving half your day’s pay to sit in a cinema seat, there’s an alternative. Or, are you still reeling from that time your local cinema didn’t get that Russian/Italian bi-lingual period drama? Well, again, there’s a remedy for this.
What could possibly be the answer to both of those problems? Why it’s a film festival of course. The Cork Film Festival to be more precise, and it’s back again this weekend for its 59th year, with some great new movies, as well as a few classics too.
Highlights include the world premiere of the Irish comedy romance, Standby, which stars Brian Gleeson and Jessica Pare, Flight of the Conchord’s Jermaine Clement’s mockumentary vampire housemate comedy What We Do in the Shadows and the genuinely chilling Enemy, which sees Jake Gyllenhaall play both lead characters.
In a great year for documentaries, the Festival has secured the thrilling Björk: Biophilia Live. A concert film and more by Nick Fenton and Peter Strickland. It captures the human element of Björk’s multi-disciplinary multimedia project: Biophilia.
Now the thing is, we don’t have time to tell you everything that’s on, so we’ll have to send you over to the website for a full list of all the films and events, but what we can do is show you a trailer from our favourite film, Enemy.
This film alone is enough of a reason to make your way down to the festival.
