Our Curator, Kim Newman, says: Count Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster, the Wolf Man, the Mummy and the Creature From the Black Lagoon converge in an American small town to begin a reign of endless evil, and a group of kids try to stop them. A nostalgic exercise which really, and unexpectedly, works. The monster effects are impressive – especially the unravelling mummy and the dismembered werewolf – and the kids are remarkably endearing by the standards of the 1980s. Duncan Regehr strides masterfully down Main Street as a cloaked, tuxedoed Dracula, bending cops into pretzel shapes, and Tom Noonan channels Karloff as a misunderstood monster.
