The objective of Science Week each year is to promote the relevance of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) in our everyday lives and to demonstrate their importance to the future of Irish society and to the economy.
This year they aim to show everybody in Ireland that they are involved in science every day, carrying out scientific processes and experimenting, even when they are not aware of it.
This year's theme, "Science Week 2012 - Everyday Experimenting" aims to demonstrate that you are a part of science. You are constantly experimenting. From tying your shoe lace, to attempting a new level on a game, trialling a new recipe and even embarking on a first date—these are everyday experiments.
While each of us carry out these daily experiments in our ordinary lives, Irish scientists are similarly carrying out experimental processes, making advancements in medicine, agriculture, social media and food science to name but a few. Our nation is full of innovators and creative problem-solvers who are putting Ireland on the world stage of science, technology, engineering and maths.
