An event to celebrate the life and career of Richard Harris on screen and stage, incorporating his love of Limerick, the Arts and Sport. Richard Harris was an actor, singer, theatrical producer, film director, wit, poet and writer of immense ability.
As well as demonstrating Harris's unique talent with viewings of his most iconic films such as 'The Field', 'This Sporting Life', 'Unforgiven' and 'Camelot', the festival will be a showcase for young film makers, theatrical performers and writers, through holding competitions to discover new talent. As well as Q&A Screenings, workshops and cine-concerts, fringe theatre and music events will give life to some of Harris's less well-known artistic endeavours in an interactive setting. In recognition of Harris's love of sport, an International Award for Best Sports Documentary of the Year will be offered.
It is hoped, this festival will become an annual event as it is high time that Richard Harris's immense talent and passion was celebrated in his native town.
This international film festival aims to showcase the best of film making talent, with a connection or strong affinity to Ireland and to attract new audiences for lesser-shown feature films across a wide range of genre.
An Award for Best Film by a member of the Irish diaspora will be presented at the Opening night gala. It is hoped that this festival will become an annual event to celebrate the Irish film-making diaspora (with new elements such as Best Sports Documentary award and interactive plays added on each year) with both original and retrospective features shown as well as discussions from industry experts.
