Set in 1950's Dublin, ON RAGLAN ROAD is a story of poetry and poverty, love and addiction. On Raglan Road was Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh's poem about his infatuation with the beautiful Hilda Moriarty, which was doomed from the start. The son of a shoemaker and small farmer, Kavanagh moved to Dublin in his early 30's, where he lived in poverty for most of his life, surviving on handouts and the odd bit of journalism, trying to avoid the writer, Brendan Behan, in the process. Croft Productions, soon to become London Irish Theatre, is set to take Tom O'Brien's new Irish play about the poet on an 18 venue tour in October including the New Theatre in Dublin as well as venues in Donegal, Kildare, Kerry, Limerick and Cork.
