Fresh from its hugely successful run Off-Broadway, Guna Nua and Civic Theatre proudly present their multi award-winning production, Little Gem, in axis Ballymun from 23rd – 27th March. The perfectly pitched comedy focuses around three generations of women in modern day Artane and one extraordinary year of sex, birth, death and salsa classes.

Amber has fierce bad indigestion and the Sambucas are not getting rid of it. Lorraine attacks a customer at work and her boss wants her to see a psychiatrist. Kay’s got an itch that Gem can’t scratch (but maybe Kermit can). Paul is just using Amber until he can get to Australia. The Hairy Man fancies Lorraine but fails to rise to the occasion, and Gem doesn’t like the neighbours coming in to ‘mind’ him. And if all that wasn’t bad enough, Little Gem makes his presence felt and…well…life is never the same again.

Little Gem, the first play by Elaine Murphy enjoyed phenomenal success at the 2008 Dublin Fringe Festival, playing to sell-out houses in both Project and the Civic Theatre and garnering the Fishamble Award for Best New Irish Writing and the award for Best Female Performance. The funny yet poignant tale of courage, comedy and romance, subsequently became the first Irish production to win the prestigious Carol Tambor Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
