The first John Ford Ireland Film Symposium will light up Ireland's capital city from 7 - 10 June with a four day celebration of film and filmmaking, inspired and informed by the timeless work of legendary Hollywood director John Ford.
Widely regarded as one of cinema's most influential directors, Irish American filmmaker John Ford made over 140 films and documentaries during his illustrious career. He still holds the record for the most Best Director Oscar® wins ever and brought to the big screen classic movies such as The Searchers, The Grapes of Wrath, Fort Apache, Rio Grande, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Informer and perhaps his most personal film, The Quiet Man (1952).
60 years on from that iconic Irish film, the inaugural John Ford Ireland Film Symposium will feature a diverse programme of events designed to entertain, inform and educate Symposium delegates and movie fans gathering in Dublin for this unique film event. Highlights include the Irish Premiere of Ford's masterpiece The Iron Horse at the National Concert Hall with award-winning composer Christopher Caliendo and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra; a Public Interview and Masterclass with Oscar nominated director Peter Bogdanovich; over a dozen public screenings including The Quiet Man 60th Anniversary Screening and a free outdoor screening of John Wayne epic The Searchers in Temple Bar; the Ford Industry Hub with filmmakers Jim Sheridan, John Boorman, Thaddeus O'Sullivan and Brian Kirk; Kyle Eastwood and Band in concert; The Abbey Players & John Ford and the John Ford Exhibition plus much more.
Familiar faces from the silver screen and special guests from around the globe will visit Dublin during the Symposium, sharing their passion for filmmaking and all things John Ford & Clint Eastwood with Ireland's legion of movie lovers.
