Hollywood has the Oscars, indie darlings have Sundance and we have the Galway Film Fleadh. Taking place this year from Tuesday, 8th July to Sunday, 13th July, Ireland’s leading film festival is one event not to miss this summer.
Now in its incredible 26th year, the Galway Film Fleadh attracts people from far and wide from the most casual film fan to directors, actors, cinematographers, film-artists and total film buffs. Audiences and filmmakers come together in the intimate, arty environment that is the City of the Tribes to share the wonder of cinema.
The programme, will include as always the best in Irish and world cinema as well as masterclasses, public Interviews, debates, workshops, seminars and more.
Begin Again, directed by award-winning Irish director John Carney and starring Keira Knightly and Mark Ruffalo with Hailee Steinfield, Adam Levine and James Corden will open the festival on Tuesday, 8th June at 7.30 pm at the Town Hall Theatre. Featuring music from Glen Hansard, Begin Again is a romantic comedy devoted to the beauty of music and the power of chance encounters.
Closing the festival on Sunday, 13th June at 8pm at the Town Hall Theatre is thriller, An Bronntanas (The Gift), directed by Tom Collins, a contemporary thriller set against the background of a local independent lifeboat crew working off the coast of Connemara.
