For its ninth production, by kind permission of Curtis Brown, St Patrick's College Repertory Company (S.P.A.R.C.) presents:
FROM THESE GREEN HEIGHTS
by Dermot Bolger
Dermot Bolger's From These Green Heights was first produced in 2004 in the Axis Art Centre, Ballymun, just across the road from the high-rise tower blocks of flats in which the play is set. The story opens in 1966 when Dessie, as a child, sees for the first time his new home which rises awe-inspiringly into the heavens. We follow his family's story from that hope-filled beginning right up to the night in 2004 when they leave Ballymun as the first of the tower blocks which has been their home for forty years is about to be demolished.
The Sunday Business Post said that From These Green Heights is "a rare and special thing… Bolger’s rich, evocative language swells and surges, carrying the characters with confident ease through their multi-faceted and often arduous journeys. From These Green Heights is something to be treasured. It brings to life a pocket of Irish history which will now not be forgotten." In Dublin called it “An important piece of social history that cannot be recommended highly enough.”
