The Dublin Beatles Festival is a four day celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Dublin performances of the world's most influential rock group. Taking place from 7th - 10th November the festival will feature more than 20 Irish and international bands taking to the stage in city centre venues for a host of Beatle inspired events.
Included among Festival highlights are John Lennon’s Original Quarrymen who feature on Saturday 9 November in two events: an afternoon public interview and Q&A in the Gresham Hotel with Tony Clayton-Lea, Irish Times Music Critic; and a performance that evening in the Grand Social. Each of the band was a member of John Lennon’s first group, The Quarrymen, which Paul McCartney joined in July 1957 and George Harrison in early 1958. John Lennon’s Original Quarrymen excite audiences world-wide with their authentic performances of the music which influenced the birth of the Beatles; the skiffle and rock ‘n’ roll of the mid-1950s.
International tribute bands on the Festival line-up include Revolver from Dundee, who previously had two sold-out gigs in Dublin. Acclaimed Beatle tribute bands performing for the first time in Ireland in November include The Beatelles, an all-female Beatle tribute group from the heart of Liverpool; Johnny and the Moondogs, hit of International Beatle Week 2012, from Middlesbrough; and The Choking Smokers, a high-energy trio from France. Irish tribute bands performing include the cast of the hit show Get Back - The Story of The Beatles; The Newspaper Taxi Men; Beatles for Sale; and The Rockets. A number of contemporary bands and performers will interpret some of their favourite Beatle songs, including Vyvienne Long, O Emperor and The Gandhis.
Festival tickets are on sale from 12 noon on Thursday 8 August 2013 at www.entertainment.ie/dublinbeatlesfestival. Tickets for individual events range from €5 to €20. A special early-bird four-day music ticket - the Crème Tangerine - is available for a limited time for only €55.
