Ceol Na Mara is a summer school for strings, catering for students from young children to adults. Now in its 6th year, the school has had students from across Ireland, the UK, France, Spain & the USA take part. This is the second year that the school has been expanded to include a festival with fun events, cultural evenings, community events & public concerts. Ceol na Mara is a unique school as it combines classical music with traditional Irish music; during the school - all students get an opportunity to learn & play with highly experienced tutors (Oonagh Keogh - ICO & Artistic Director for Ceol Na Mara; Geraldine O'Grady; Lisa Grosman; Odhrán O'Casaide; Eanan Patterson; Annette Cleary; Shelia O'Grady). There are also modules on séan nós dancing & singing and the week culminates with a junior concert (classical & trad, drama & singing) and later that day, the senior concert takes place. During the week, enjoy family table quizzes, gold outings and historical walks. Visitors and students are encouraged to enjoy the beautiful Connemara beaches, mountains and country walks. A considerable number of patrons have been present since year one and as a development of the summer school, Oonagh now hosts monthly orchestral sessions in what has become the Ceol Na Mara Orchestra. It's more than a summer school - it's an experience! For more information see website.
