The Burren bursts into bloom this May when it hosts one of Ireland's best kept treasures - the arrival of a range of wildflowers that paint the landscape and is unrivalled in the rest of the country. The Burrenbeo Trust's Burren in Bloom festival is a celebration of this, opening the magic of this landscape to all.
Running throughout the month of May in venues around the Burren, Burren in Bloom will feature over 40 events including walks, talks and cultural events, with a choice for all age groups. Organised by the Burrenbeo Trust, a charity for the region, the events are sure to enhance your appreciation of the unique and beautiful Burren landscape. With nearly 20 walks during the month on topics ranging from invasive species to cathedrals and wildflowers to geology there is plenty to attract the outdoor enthusiasts, while the early risers can enjoy a champagne breakfast after a dawn chorus walk led by Gordon D'Arcy on the 5h of May.
The talks schedule is equally varied and includes talks on farming and conservation, early Christian and medieval Kilfenora, wildflower wonders of the world and some of the Burren's less well known cultural sites. There are also exhibitions, markets and musical events during the month, notably the launch of Fiona Linnane's 'Bells across the Burren' musical trail at Newtown Castle. For families that want to get out and discover the natural world there are a number of events specifically aimed at the younger Burren explorers.
