The Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, Ireland's Summer Opera, takes place for eight magical days from 29th May to 5th June with an impressive programme of 21 events at 12 stunning venues (in Cork and Waterford), with everything from big tickets to free tickets.
More than 4,500 visitors are expected to attend the world renowned, unique, and inclusive opera and classical music week, which is now in its 13th year. The festival attracts top talent and will welcome 103 international and Irish artists, present 65+ hours of music, and deliver education outreach to an estimated 2,500 local students.
Ian Charles Bostridge CBE is an acclaimed English tenor, well known for his performances as an opera and lieder singer, and song recitalist. Ian Bostridge's international recital career has taken him to the foremost concert halls of Europe, Japan, and North America.
Ian Bostridge and Antonio Pappano released the album Shakespeare Songs in 2016, marking the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. Shakespeare Songs celebrated the four centuries of music and performance that his plays and sonnets have inspired. Shakespeare’s peerless feeling for the music of the English language has inspired countless composers, from those who set the Bard’s verse during his lifetime to musicians as diverse as Britten, Finzi, Korngold and Stravinsky.
