As mother! makes its way into cinemas, audience reaction has definitely been less than positive - to say the least.

CinemaScore, which has been polling and tracking US audience reactions to major cinema releases since the late '70s, has come back with the lowest possible rating for Darren Aronofsky's horror parable, mother!.

The rating system goes from A+, A, B+, B, C, D and the dreaded F. mother!, it's been confirmed, was rated F by polled audiences for CinemaScore. It's worth pointing out, of course, that many critically acclaimed and beloved films have polled poorly with CinemaScore in the past.

For example, Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly was rated F by CinemaScore, as was the Australian horror-thriller Wolf Creek and Steven Soderbergh's remake of the sci-fi classic Solaris.

Then again, other films to receive an F rating included the remake of The Wicker Man, with Nicolas Cage, and Disaster Movie, which is considered to be one of the worst films ever made.

So, yeah, maybe CinemaScore is on to something. Have you seen mother!, and if so, what did you think of it? Let us know in the comments!
