J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures pulled one hell of a surprise last night by revealing that not only was there a 'blood relative' of 2008's found-footage monster apocalypse movie 'Cloverfield' in the works, but that it was finished and coming out in three months time. Someone's been stealing ideas from Beyoncé.
Starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr., the film, which went into production under the (sneaky) title of 'Valencia' to presumably keep the whole thing under wraps, follows Winstead's character who wakes up after a car crash in a converted cellar and thinks that she's been abducted but it's not all that simple.
Per Slash Film:
Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.
Speaking to Collider, Abrams said: "The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible." Adding that to the above statement and the trailer and we think it's safe to say that we're in a post-apocalyptic post-Cloverfield monster world and things are going to get very claustrophobic and tense.
'10 Cloverfield Lane' is expected in Irish cinemas on April 8th.
