Coming off the back of the one-two of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, it looked like Edgar Wright wasn't going to put a foot wrong.
Then came The World's End, which was a bit of a dud and, after that, was the debacle around Ant-Man. Wright walked away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, determined to make films his own way and one of the projects he outlined afterwards was Baby Driver, a music-led chase thriller.
At long last, we finally get a look at what Wright had in mind and it looks pretty insane. Ansel Elgort plays Baby, a (you guessed it) baby-faced getaway driver who constantly listens to music in order to help him concentrate when he's driving. He's been coerced into working for a crime boss, played by Kevin Spacey, and is eager to get out from under and escape with his girlfriend, played by Lily James.
Obviously, the set-up of it is pretty standard but the way Wright works out the scenes and the action is the selling point here. Not only that, it sounds like the soundtrack is going to something special, not to mention a host of talented actors that includes Jon Bernthal, Jamie Foxx, the aforementioned Spacey and Jon Hamm.
And yes, that's Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers at the end. Here's the slick-looking poster debuted by Edgar Wright via Twitter...
And here's the trailer in question.
