When you think about it, it's a bit of a disgrace that it's taken this long for a standalone Wonder Woman film to happen.

After all, Wonder Woman has been one of the most well-known comic-book characters since it debuted back in 1941. However, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we finally have ourselves a Wonder Woman in a major blockbuster and, at long last, a Wonder Woman standalone film.

The film, directed by Patty Jenkins, sees Chris Pine as soldier Steve Trevor who's separated from his men and somehow transported to a mystical island that's inhabited solely by women with incredible powers. Diana, the daughter of Queen Hippolyta, then follows Trevor back to modern civilisation where the world is engulfed in World War I.

Here's the trailer.

So, thoughts? It's a very strong trailer, that's for sure.

We did have some reservations about the World War I setting and exactly how it'd look in context, but the bit we've seen so far looks like it makes sense. Gal Gadot looks like she's capable as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine definitely has enough charisma to spare.

Danny Huston as a German general also looks like a solid choice of villain and you've also got the hugely underrated Connie Nielsen in there as well. So yeah, it all looks positive.

Here's hoping our faith is rewarded when Wonder Woman is released on June 2nd, 2017.
