Ridley Scott, at 77 years of age, shows absolutely no sign whatsoever of flagging. If anything, he's more determined than ever to keep going.

His latest sci-fi film, The Martian, sees Scott on reasonably familiar ground. Matt Damon plays Mark Whatney, an astronaut who becomes stranded and separated from his crew during a storm on the surface of Mars.

Left for dead on the red planet, he must attempt to survive and stave off madness while waiting for a rescue that looks all but impossible.

Think 127 Hours on Mars and you're sort of on the right track. With an impressive ensemble cast made up of Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Sebastian Shaw, Kristen Wiig, Donald Glover, Jeff Daniels and Sean Bean, The Martian may hopefully be the return to greatness for Scott that we've been hoping for for quite some time now.

In fairness, he's got everything going for him. With a script by Daredevil's Drew Goddard, a fantastic cast and a great source novel to work with, there's nothing stopping Scott from turning this into a modern classic.

In this viral featurette, we see Damon introduce his crew and their mission.

It sorta reminds us of that really cool TED Talk thing Scott produced for Prometheus with Guy Pearce.

Take a look!
