For a long time it looked like Casey Affleck would never be able to escape his more famous brother's shadow.
Then The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford came along and in the almost ten years since then the younger Affleck brother has proved that when it comes to acting ability he's the real talent in the family. Now it looks like he might get his first ever Oscar nomination to back up that claim.
Manchester by the Sea sees Affleck play Lee Chandler, a man whose life is thrown into disarray when his older brother (Kyle Chandler) dies and he's named as guardian for his nephew, Patrick (Lucas Hedges). Lee then has to choose between moving back to his hometown or uprooting Patrick to live with him.
The film is written and directed by Kenneth Lonnergan who made the terrific You Can Count on Me and 2011's Margaret.
