It's the film adaptation that you've all been waiting for and it's now one step closer to being a reality.

After a lengthy search for a female lead, the Baywatch movie has finally found its answer to Pamela Anderson in True Detective's Alexandra Daddario. The actress was selected from a shortlist that included Spring Breakers' Ashley Benson and X-Men: Apocalypse's Alexandra Shipp.

Daddario will be reteaming with The Rock, who she worked with in this year's San Andreas. It's understood Daddario will be the love interest for Zac Efron's character and, of course, will be playing a lifeguard. The Rock took to Instagram to announce the news and also confirm that the role of CJ Parker - played by Pamela Anderson in the original - is forthcoming. We're guessing right now that it'll be Kate Upton. Has to be, right?

The plot of the Baywatch movie is, of course, absolutely hilarious. The Rock plays a serious veteran lifeguard who has to team up with a young hothead to battle an oil tycoon and his plans for ecological devastation. Who that oil tycoon will be remains to be seen, but what is known is that Baywatch is working off a similar blueprint to 21 Jump Street.

In other words, it's going to utterly rip the piss out of itself whilst still being a decent action comedy. The Baywatch movie has been in the works for quite a while, with various directors and writers passing over it. However, Horrible Bosses' director Seth Gordon believes he's on to something so we're all just hoping for the best at this stage.

Also, if they don't use this at some point in the film, we riot.
