You might scoff at the idea of fan theories, but the truth is that it's happened on more than a few occasions where they've actually been proven right.
While it's the sort of thing that's usually reserved for enthusiasts, it doesn't take a lot of knowledge to work out the most logical way of why certain things pan out how they do. So it goes with 'Avengers: Infinity War' and its end-credits scene, which just so happens to introduce the long-awaited female superhero Captain Marvel, due to be played by Brie Larson.
The end-credits scene shows Fury reaching into his pocket and activating a pager - a relic from the '90s, where 'Captain Marvel' is supposedly set - before he himself gets turned into dust. He only does it right after seeing Maria Hill, played by HIMYM alum Cobie Smulders, which means somebody warned him about this very moment.
That somebody? Dr. Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
That's the fan theory put forth by Reddit user WamsTheOneAndOnly, who goes to explain that Dr. Strange will likely appear in the upcoming 'Captain Marvel' movie "and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel." In other words, Dr. Strange is setting up her return to Earth as she's the only one who can stop Thanos - not the Avengers, certainly not Strange and explains why he gave over the Time Stone willingly as it was the only way for them to win.
Just to even further sell the point, Dr. Strange was mentioned in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' as a potential threat to HYDRA and this was before he became the super-powered Sorcerer Supreme we saw in 'Avengers: Infinity War'. HYDRA knew that Fury considered Strange an ally and was most likely keeping tabs on him, but just didn't know precisely why that was.
