It really does show just how much of a calling card office favourite John Wick has been for David Leitch and Chad Stohelski, particularly Leitch, as he's now linked to two of the most promising action blockbusters in recent years.

As we previously reported, Leitch is now confirmed to direct the Fast & Furious spinoff with Jason Statham and The Rock, and will now be boarding the upcoming adaptation of open-world RPG The Division with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain. Per Variety's report, Universal are keen to point out that the Hobbs / Shaw / Furiouser & Furiouser movie is coming first, with The Division likely beginning production in 2019.

David Leitch booked the director's chair for Deadpool 2 off the back of his work on the Charlize Theron-starring Atomic Blonde, and the early buzz surrounding Deadpool 2 convinced The Rock to push for Leitch as director. Taking on a videogame franchise like The Division, however, is going to be a challenge - primarily because there just hasn't been anything particularly good made of them.

Sure, Rampage made decent box office but it's barely over 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, but you only need to look at the likes of Assassin's Creed or Warcraft to know that even with strong directors and a talented cast to know that it doesn't always work out to be a hit.

There's no word yet on a release date for The Division, but expect it to land in cinemas some time in 2020.
