With Avengers: Infinity War and the as-yet-untitled fourth Avengers film on their way into production, the stalwarts of the MCU - that's Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans et al and others - are looking beyond their super-suits.

Chris Evans has already discussed taking a break from acting post-Avengers and now it seems Robert Downey Jr. is lining up work for himself that doesn't involve facial hair or a giant red armour suit. THR reports that Downey Jr. has signed on to star in The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle, with Stephen Gaghan set to direct.

Gaghan directed this year's Gold with Matthew McConaughey, and previously directed Syriana with George Clooney and Matt Damon. There's been no word as of yet as to a release date, however the film was the subject of an intense bidding war - with Universal winning out in the end.

Although most people would associate Dr. Dolittle with Eddie Murphy's late '90s film, the character has featured in films since the early '60s.

Downey Jr.'s next film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, will hit Irish cinemas on July 7th.
