As Justice League arrives into cinemas next week worldwide, stories are now coming to light of its tumultuous production and ballooned budget from reshoots.

A new report by the Wall Street Journal has it that the total production budget for Justice League is close to $300 million, and that Joss Whedon's reshoots were far more significant than first thought. The report states that when Snyder's cut of the movie was delivered to Warner Bros., Joss Whedon was brought in to write scenes for the reshoots in order to lighten the tone of the film.

Snyder then departed the film and Whedon stepped in to direct those scenes in question. WSJ's report states that Whedon's shoots, which they describe as "significant", were what jacked up the production budget. On top of all this, the report also states that Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara mandated that Justice League come in under two hours, fearing another repeat of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and its 151 minute runtime.

If the $300 million figure is correct, then Justice League is tied with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End as the second-most expensive film ever made. On top of that, there's also the matter of its marketing and promotion budget, which could potentially be anything over $100 million.

It's not all bad, though. Test screenings for Justice League have it roughly around the same as Wonder Woman, with Ezra Miller as The Flash being described as the breakout performer of the film. What's more, a Flash movie is now being listed as a priority by Warner Bros. on the back of Justice League.

Reviews have so far been embargoed on Justice League, but with the film due to hit cinemas next week, it's only a matter of time before they make their way online.
