It seems that audiences all over the world really like seeing people get eaten by dinosaurs.
Jurassic World has, according to projections, had the biggest opening weekend of all time, raking in an estimated $511.8 million dollars since it was released on Friday worldwide.
In the U.S., it hit $204.6 million dollars which puts it second behind The Avengers ($207 million), but when global figures are included, that figure goes up to well over $500 million, also making it the first movie to gross half a billion in its opening weekend.
According to Entertainment Weekly, it also broke IMAX records, with the movie taking $20.6 million in that format, and 50% of the international box office takings came from 3D, so all in all it's been a pretty good weekend for Chris Pratt and his co-stars.
It blew up the box office locally too, taking the biggest opening of the year so far in Ireland - pushing Avengers: Age of Ultron into second spot.

San Andreas also continues to perform well, as do Spy and Mad Max. The one big flop of the year so far is the George Clooney led Tomorrowland.
