Johnny Depp is being linked to a new film Labyrinth, which would see him play a detective who investigated the murders of Biggie and Tupac. The project is set to be pitched to investors at the Toronto film festival.
The film is based on book of the same name, which tells the story of real life L.A. detective Russell Poole who investigated a number of high profile murders in the late 1990s. One of the cases he worked on was the March 1997 murder of rapper Biggie Smalls, which lead him into investigating alleged ties between fellow police officers and Death Row records CEO Suge Knight. Poole died iof a heart attack in 2015.
As ScreenDaily.com report, Brad Furman is lined up to direct. His latest film The Infiltrator is out here later this month, and he also directed The Lincoln Lawyer. The film will be produced by Good Films, who hope to start filming later this year.
Despite difficulties in his personal life, Depp has had some recent career success. He was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild for his role as Whitey Bulger in last year's Black Mass.
This project sounds very promising, so we really hope it makes it to the big screen.
