As has been evidenced in the first film and brilliantly demonstrated in the second, John Wick is fond of a pencil-based fatality so it's kind of disappointing that this is lacking from the official synopsis for the third movie.

Is it perhaps that they're building up to some kind of graphite orgy? Could it even involve... whisper it... a pen? Who knows. What is known is that 'Ol Johnny Wick is in big trouble in New York and, as when we last left him, he's on the run. Take it away, marketing intern.

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.

It's interesting that New York is mentioned specifically in the synopsis, as the last entry saw the action take place in Rome for the first half and New York in the second. Previous set reports and the like suggested that the third movie would see action move to the likes of Tokyo, and the casting of Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada seemed to confirm that. It may just be that a scene or two happens there, but whatever - we're just hoping for a pencil somewhere in the makeup.

John Wick: Chapter 3 arrives on May 17th of next year.
