There's been a distinct lack of Jamie Dornan on our TV screens over the last few months but thanks to Netflix, we need suffer no more.
The Northern Irish actor turned Fifty Shades heartthrob will return to the small screen as a soldier named Pat from County Kerry. Wonderful. He certainly has the smouldering, serious, poker face down pat - something that seems to be his forte after The Fall - but as for the Kerry accent? Unfortunately, his turn as Christian Grey didn't exactly wow us in terms of his thespian ability but we're keeping the faith on this one.
The movie entitled The Siege of Jadotville centres on the true experience of the Irish troops in the Congo during the 60s. Dornan's character, Pat Quinlan, was commander of a group of UN peacekeepers who found themselves in dodgy territory and unwelcome parts in the year of 61. It's directed by Richie Smyth, a well-known commercial and music video director (U2, Bon Jovi, The Verve) and written by Kevin Brodbin (Constantine), while Jadotville was filmed in Ireland and South Africa.
“The story of how Pat Quinlan led his troops against an overwhelming force without losing a single man is one of the great stories of the 20th century, and we are proud to be working with such a talented and committed team to bring it to life.... This film will be an amazing addition to our global original films initiative.” said Netflix's Ted Sarandos.
Going on Netflix's track record with their global original films initiative, this flick, premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh on July 9th, might really turn heads. Watch this space.
