Although there's no word yet on casting, you've got to imagine that somebody like Andrew Garfield is being lined up to play Anthony Perkins in this upcoming biopic about the secret affair between Perkins and fellow '50s movie idol Tab Hunter.
Really, you just need to put a picture of Garfield in black and white and you've more or less got Perkins down to a tee. Anyway, THR is reporting that JJ Abrams and Zachary Quinto are set to produce a biopic based on Hunter's tell-all bestseller, 'Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making Of A Movie Star'.
The book charts Hunter's recruitment into the studio system, the pressures of conforming to their social standards and the prevailing homophobic sentiment of the era, and details the secret affair that took place between Hunter and the star of 'Psycho'. The book itself was initially turned into a documentary in 2015, and while no director or casting has been lined up for the biopic, screenwriter Doug Wright has been tapped to adapt Hunter's book.
LGBTQ-themed films are becoming a big business for studios, what with this year's 'Love, Simon' and last year's 'Call Me By Your Name' both winning commercial and critical success. On top of that, you also had 'Moonlight' scooping up the Best Picture Oscar in 2016 - so there's clearly a market for these stories.
No release date has been set for 'Tab & Tony'.
