Irish film just got a ringing endorsement at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The Lobster, which was co-funded by Irish production company Element Pictures and shot in Ireland, has won the Jury Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival in the South of France.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the dramedy is set in the near future and sees people forced to find a mate within 45 days or be turned into animals. Yes, really.
Starring Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux and Michael Smiley, the film has become a critical darling at the festival and is already being tipped for Oscar glory at the end of the year.
Filmed in Dublin and in Kerry, the film was co-produced by Element Pictures, Film4, Canal+ and a number of film funds across Ireland, UK and Greece.
The Lobster is due for release in Irish cinemas on October 16th of this year.
