Just when you thought Hollywood had licensed all the video games that they could possibly make a movie out of...
If you're of the requisite vintage, you may remember having (productively) spent the days of your youth trying to assemble shapes in to lines and blocks that made them disappear to some incredibly catchy 8-bit tunes straight out of Russia on your Gameboy and thinking to yourself "this would make a terrible movie". Turns out you were wrong, because Hollywood has plans to make a live action Tetris movie.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Threshold Entertainment are the people behind this project, who you may remember from the Mortal Kombat movies back in the '90s, so at least they have a track record when it comes to taking games on to the big screen.
Threshold's Larry Kasanoff said that "It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie", but gave little detail on what else the movie would be about. No directors have been attached to the project yet, and neither have any stars, who will surely be lining up to land the big roles of T-block (may we suggest Mr. T?) or Straight Line.
Kasanoff added that "brands are the new stars of Hollywood, [and] we have a story behind ’Tetris’ which makes it a much more imaginative thing". We're sure it's going to be a real blockbuster...sorry.
Either way, cult rock heroes Ozma should be the ones in charge of the soundtrack, at least in our humble opinion. Be prepared to be whistling this all day...
