In a statement released to media on Friday evening, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has now begun a formal investigation into allegations made by Brendan Fraser against former president Philip Berk in an interview with GQ.

In the interview, Fraser claimed that Berk groped him in 2003 at HFPA luncheon. Berk has claimed that Fraser's version of events, which involved a letter from him confirming the incident took place but denying any wrongdoing, "is a total fabrication."

In its statement, the HFPA says that it "stands firmly against sexual harassment and the type of behavior described, and that "(over) the years we’ve continued a positive working relationship with Brendan, which includes announcing Golden Globe nominees, attending the ceremony and participating in press conferences. This report includes alleged information that the HFPA was previously unaware of and at this time we are investigating further details surrounding the incident."
